Madison History

The Madison Aerie #623 was instituted on January 2, 1904.  The first quarters were located on the second floor of the Summer and Morris Hardware store at 17 South Pinckney Street, where they remained for seven years, moving in 1911 to larger quarters in Woodman Hall, 23 West Main Street.  In 1913, with 248 members, they moved into rooms of their own in the Klauber Building, 23 East Main Street.  

Ground breaking ceremony for the first home of the Madison Eagles in Nov. 22, 1926.  In attendance is GWP M.O. Burns.  It was a proud day in December of 1927  when the home at 23 West Doty Street was completed and occupied by 1946 members.  This was the home until the 1950's, when the City of Madison and Dane County decided that they needed to be close to the Capital Square.  They aquired the site and built the current City/County building.

A new Aerie Home was constructed on Jennifer Street on the site of the old Marquette School grounds and was the home until 1999.  This site had 8 bowling lanes in the basement as well as a social room.  The main level had another social room, as well as a large hall that was used for weddings and dances.

 The Madison Aerie and Auxiliary has been the host of the Wisconsin State Aerie and Auxiliary Hall of Fame since 19??.  The meeting room contains the records for both Hall of Fames and also has a plaque listing all Wisconsin members who are members of the Grand Aerie Hall of Fame.

This is the current home of Madison Eagles #623.  We moved into this building on January 4, 1999.  This site has more parking than the previous sites.
